Dragonewt — Heirs of the Ancient Flame
A hybrid race born from draconic heritage, the Dragonewts occupy a singular position within the balance of peoples. Neither fully dragons nor merely humanoids, they embody an ancient lineage where blood, memory, and power converge into a single nature.
Dragonewts descend from primordial dragons, most often tied to fire, from whom they inherited raw strength and ancestral instinct. This lineage is not only visible in their appearance—reptilian traits, partial scales, incandescent eyes—but above all in a presence that is difficult to ignore. Where a human asserts themselves through words or status, a Dragonewt asserts themselves simply by existing.
Their morphology varies significantly depending on lineage. Some retain a form close to that of humanoids, marked by subtle draconic features. Others, however, display far more pronounced characteristics: scaled skin, reinforced limbs, slit pupils, and, in some cases, fully functional wings. Not all possess this ability. The presence of wings depends as much on blood purity as on individual maturation, creating an implicit hierarchy within the race itself.
Few, however, willingly abandon their draconic nature. Among Dragonewts, the preservation of traits inherited from dragons is highly valued. Many consider the weakening of these characteristics—whether through time, interbreeding, or distance from the original lineage—to be a loss, even a form of decline. This perspective deeply shapes their internal dynamics, reinforcing the importance of strength, blood continuity, and the affirmation of their identity.
This diversity is not seen as a flaw, but as a variation of a shared heritage. Each Dragonewt carries within them a different aspect of the original dragon—some favor physical power, others develop a stronger elemental affinity, while others exhibit exceptional resilience or endurance.
Magically, Dragonewts possess an instinctive affinity with the elements, particularly fire. Unlike human mages, who must learn, structure, and channel their mana, Dragonewts access their power in a more organic way. Their magic is less technical, but more direct—often more violent—and closely tied to their inner state.
This proximity to raw power profoundly shapes their temperament. Dragonewts are known for their dominant nature, marked pride, and difficulty submitting to external authority. Their understanding of power is based less on social legitimacy and more on the ability to assert oneself. Within their societies, respect is not granted—it is proven.
However, reducing Dragonewts to mere brutality would be a mistake. Beneath their apparent harshness lies a strong internal coherence. They respect strength, but despise arbitrariness. When they give their loyalty, it is rarely withdrawn.
Their relationship with other races is often marked by a natural distance. Not out of systematic rejection, but due to a fundamental difference in perception. Where other peoples value stability or integration, Dragonewts value self-assertion, the continuity of their lineage, and the preservation of what they consider the very essence of their power.
Among the races of the Otherworld, Dragonewts embody a simple and ancient truth: power is not merely something to control, but something to embrace as one’s nature.
